Music seems to run in guitarist Cecilio Perera’s family, and it’s a lucky thing. When he was 9 years old, Perera began learning music from his brother, Pedro, who guided him in basic technique and how to read music. By the time he was 12, Perera was already well-versed in a wide-ranging repertoire, from baroque to contemporary, and was giving recitals in his hometown of Merida, in Yucatan, Mexico.
Now nearly 30 and a rising star of classical guitar, Perera will open the season at the South Bay Guitar Society with a concert Oct. 20, 8 p.m. at Le Petit Trianon, 72 N. Fifth St., San Jose .
