I want to extend a warm welcome to all listeners, members and contributors to the South Bay Guitar Society. This season, like previous ones, is truly multicultural. In the coming months, we will hear artists from Russia, Germany, the USA, Croatia, Greece and France! The diversity also shows at our monthly open mic. People from all corners of the globe and all ages and skill levels come together in a welcoming setting to share the compositions they are currently working on.
You will find the South Bay Guitar Society on Facebook, Twitter, Meetups, and more. We use electronic ticketing and recently simplified the price structure and agreed to absorb the fees for electronic tickets. In the ‘About’ tab on our website, we are adding a page that introduces the hard-working members of our board. This is part of a fresh look we are planning for the website as a whole. Stand by for changes there.
For more than thirty years the South Bay Guitar Society has been hosting not only state of the art guitar performances but also mounting free recitals, lectures and displays in libraries, schools, hospitals and senior homes. Annually, the society holds a guitar festival featuring masterclasses, adjudications, instructional sessions, and a space for luthiers to present their finely crafted instruments.
The society is also a point of connection for instructors and those wishing to learn guitar, and a place where one can find talented musicians to enrich an event. We are committed to keeping our ticket prices reasonable and to continuing San Jose’s reputation as a Mecca for classical guitar, a goal made possible by generous member support and grant funding. Thank you for your backing and for joining us in another outstanding season!
President, South Bay Guitar Society
