Those who were uplifted by the vitality, innovation, and energy of last year’s Tangents Contemporary Guitar Series can look forward to a second season the first half of 2013.
Starting February 22, One Earth, guitarist / soprano Alexandra Iranfar will join Timothy Sherren to perform Timothy’s arrangements of Samuel Barber, Cole Porter and Ned Rorem, in addition to recent commissions from composers Renaud Cote-Giguere and Benjamin Dameron.
March 22, Connie Sheu, Director of Communications for the Guitar Foundation of America and faculty member at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, will perform a program of female composers. She recently released a CD, The Woman’s Voice: Original Music for Guitar by Female Composers. Listen to her podcast interview with Scott Wolf.
April 26 the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of David Tanenbaum, will play a program yet to be announced. They performed at the GFA Festival in Charleston last summer and have commissioned and premiered many new works.
Finally, May 24, James Moore will perform solo guitar music by composers from New York, featuring John Zorn’s “Dominoes”.
Artistic directors Giacomo Fiore and Steve Lin are raising the standard for Bay Area guitar audiences, assembling a season of fresh, new music performed by outstanding artists.
