NoonArts & Lectures presents Black Cedar, a duo of wood flutist Kris Palmer and acoustic guitarist Steven Lin, which will present music from a range of traditions including German baroque, Serbian folk and Indian classical as well as works inspired by Japanese Haiku poetry.
As the Black Cedar duo since 2012, Kris Palmer and Steven Lin present their summer 2023 series with appearances in San Jose, Portola Valley and Fremont.
Palmer is a winner of the Carmel Chamber Music Society Competition and the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition and is a Carnegie Hall Recital Debut winner with Artists International. She is a former member of the New Mexico Symphony and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University. The New York Concert Review calls Palmer "clearly among the few current performers on any instrument to fully understand the nature of French Baroque music."
Steven Lin is a winner of both the Boston GuitarFest Competition and the East Carolina University Guitar Competition. A recording artist for VGo Recordings, Lin has released two albums, Eliot Fisk Series Vol. 1 and Imagen. Classical Guitar magazine calls Lin "a confident player with a powerful sound, quick hands, and a solid musical memory."
