Laurel Harned began her musical journey at age nine under Susan Graves and now studies with Jack Sanders. A rising star in the world of classical guitar, her dedication has led to remarkable achievements. In 2023 Laurel won the Denver International Youth Competition and became the youngest semi-finalist in the Josephina P. Tuason International Guitar Competition. She was also a semi-finalist in the James Stroud National Classical Guitar Competition in 2023 and 2022.
Summer of 2023 was a transformative experience as Laurel attended the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute, working intensively with the renowned Romero Quartet. She has participated in masterclasses with celebrated musicians such as Ana Vidovic, Los Romeros, the Beijing Guitar Duo, Jason Vieaux, and Goran Krivokapić. Another career highlight is her selection as one of only six guitarists to perform for Peabody Conservatory's Manuel Barrueco in his October 2023 Pre-College Guitar Virtuosos masterclass.
Laurel’s academic accomplishments include completing the highest levels of the Certificate of Merit in music theory and performance with state honors. She was invited to audition for the Young Artist Guild of the Music Teachers’ Association of California and earned the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award in 2024. This award supported her studies in Spain and featured her on National Public Radio's music program From the Top in the episode “Musicians from Rural America,” which aired in April 2024.
Outside of music, Laurel enjoys teaching beginner guitar students, hiking, running, and helping on her family’s small farm. She attended the Volterra Project in Italy on a full scholarship in 2024, furthering her artistry and international reach.
Laurel’s passion, talent, and hard work captivate audiences. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness her exceptional artistry during this exciting stage of her career. Laurel is proud to be an Augustine Strings Ambassador. Her recordings can be found on YouTube, presented by Guitar Salon International (USA) and Siccas Guitars (Germany).
