An Afternoon of Music - PRIVATE EVENT

DIRECTIONS: Mission Skilled Nursing & Subacute Center

This is a private event at Mission Skilled Nursing and Subacute Center and is not open to the public or SBGS members.

Classical guitarists Daniel Philip and Nikhil Prabhakar and violinist Mathias Gomez perform in this community engagement event.

    Time: 3:00 p.m. on Sunday April 27, 2025

Location: Mission Skilled Nursing & Subacute Center, 410 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara

Daniel Philip is a versatile guitarist who loves creating music. At 9, he began guitar lessons at the Silicon Valley Classical Guitar School in Sunnyvale and has made great progress over five years. Playing guitar has taught Daniel many lessons about patience and attention to detail. He prefers music from the 1990s to 2010s and likes playing pop songs converted into classical-guitar style.  He transcribes his favorite pop songs to staff notation, allowing him to use classical fingering technique.  Daniel taught himself acoustic guitar and is a member of his church worship team. He also plays trumpet in the Cupertino Middle School band. Playing multiple instruments allows him to transfer skills across areas, making him a better musician overall.  At his first performance in a nursing home, Daniel saw how much the residents enjoyed a break in their day and afterwards began volunteering his time and talent in local care centers. Daniel is currently preparing for the Royal Conservatory of Music's Level 7 exams.

    Daniel Philip

Nikhil Prabhakar, 17, is a senior at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. He studies classical guitar with Scott Cmiel at the Pre-College Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and performs at nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in the South Bay. The warmth and curiosity of the residents at these centers has led to a great sense of connection and purpose for him. Nikhil also volunteers at local libraries and loves reading books about life sciences and biology. In his spare time, he loves watching movies, playing with his dog and spending time with his friends.

    Nikhil Prabhakar

Mathias Gomez, 15, is a sophomore at Stanford Online High School and studies violin at the Pre-College Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Besides volunteering at senior living communities, Mathias serves as an assistant teacher at a local school.  Mathias enjoys ballet, piano, reading, Star Wars, and Lego projects.

Use the Zoom link above to join the class at 6:45 p.m.

    Setup recommendation for participants:

An external microphone such as a Zoom USB digital microphone is recommended for good sound quality. For example, the Zoom H1n works very well. If you don’t have one, the microphone in your computer or mobile device will be adequate.

We recommend that you install the latest version of Zoom. Go to the Zoom/Check for Updates menu item and run the update, or go to Download Zoom Update.
